I've noticed, since moving to Munising, the fog in the morning rolls in and out, and then before you know it, everything is clear. Kind of like the way my mind works!
My kayak has been laying around near the waters edge, just waiting to get wet other than from rain, but it's been just a tad bit too cool to get out there comfortably w/out a wetsuit. I'm hoping the weather becomes more like summer pretty soon, or like this past March, when we had 80 degrees! These rainy, grey days have not gone to waste as I have been finishing up my organizing of the new digs and making the place look like home. It's been fun unearthing treasures I've had wrapped and boxed since I moved back in January of '11 and never unpacked in the Chatham house since I was only renting and that house was for sale. I never knew when I was going to get evicted if it sold, so I didn't get as comfortable as I would have liked had it been my 'home' home.Phyllis Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02162031383458018640noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326680611561918226.post-29547786657813447612012-03-23T17:02:00.000-07:002012-03-23T17:02:52.407-07:00Rainy Pictured Rocks day

My daughter Amy came to visit me in Chatham Wednesday and stayed until Friday. We always make the most of our time together, so we went to Marquette Weds. evening to eat and spent Thursday being tourists visiting the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore with Brinkley in tow, of course! The weather was a tad dreary, but I am not complaining as it has been unseasonalbly warm the past week. The water was cold, but that didn't stop Brinkley!
I also bought a great handbag pattern that was perfect for these colorful strips. So I layed the strips down, choose color groups -purples, pinks, greens & blues, and followed the instructions. I'm actually going to get a total of 8 handbags out of these fabrics, as I only needed 9 2.5" x 22" strips for one bag. I have another group identical to the ones I'm showing you here in my sewing room! The lining fabric in the bottom photo was purchased while I was in Texas last summer. It is a great batik, and just happens to be perfect for the lining in each of the handbags. It's amazing how well it goes with each color group, and that I bought plenty of it without knowing what I was going to do with it!
I normally don't do a lot of sewing on beautiful sunny, summer days, but if it's cloudy with even a chance of rain, I'm sewing!!Phyllis Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02162031383458018640noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326680611561918226.post-65780108245622278872011-06-16T07:43:00.000-07:002011-06-16T07:43:33.050-07:00

Dogs are so funny-they never check the temperature of the water before they dive right in, and Brinkley is no exception. Lake Superior is cold right now, and may stay that way for quite some time since we haven't had tropical temps to warm things up. Ok, 'tropical' is probably a misleading term when referring to UP summers!Phyllis Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02162031383458018640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326680611561918226.post-91153199955839940942011-06-16T07:22:00.000-07:002011-06-16T07:22:34.493-07:00Summer, almost!

It's the middle of June already! Brinkley & I have been out doing some exploring, but if I had a choice, I'd forgo work to explore every day. We recently went to 12 mile beach, which I mistakenly called 11 mile beach. I happened to mention this to a co-worker and he said "You're only off by 1 mile". There are days I feel I'm off by a dozen miles! Anyway, Brinkley & I are going to go to this beach whenever we can this summer, if it ever really warms up, because it's beautiful and long!Phyllis Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02162031383458018640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326680611561918226.post-92043680749569454472011-01-29T15:45:00.000-08:002011-01-29T15:45:05.082-08:00Chatham in January

My sister, Ginny, asked to see photos of the house I'm renting in Chatham, which is 17 miles from my job in Munising. That takes work, baby! So, enough of the outside, here's great photos of the inside. I spared you the bedrooms and full bath. I'll tell you this, the upstairs bath looks like the downstairs, only there's a double sink, bathtub/shower combo, same style toilet and carpeting-yes, carpeting in the bathroom! Not my favorite, but I've warmed up (literally) to it. The bedrooms are huge, but the www does not need to see my bedroom. Also, I don't have much on the walls because I don't feel like I should start putting holes in the walls! So I've hung stuff wherever there are existing holes.
I'll be living in Chatham, a really huge metropolis with a large population. Not really. It's about 2 blocks long and one block wide, but there is a restaurant, store and a post office!!! Winter is not the time to move, but that's what happens when one must earn a living. See you on the mainland!Phyllis Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02162031383458018640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326680611561918226.post-69880508183535951222010-05-29T16:36:00.000-07:002010-05-29T16:36:18.675-07:00Well, it's been some time since I've written a blog. Not a whole lot has happened. My hours were cut at work, my daughter is home and will start her new job in a few weeks, and my middle son is on a larger tug boat now. My oldest son has his house up for sale and I have no clue as to where he and Liisa will live if they sell it! That's what's happening on the home front.
In the Keweenaw, the start of the summer season is in full swing, with tons of traffic with campers and/or boats in tow heading north. The lilacs are at their peak, but it has been super dry. I went down to Eagle River last Tuesday morning and couldn't believe how much beach is exposed. I've never seen that much sand. Obviously, I didn't get a camera for Christmas, otherwise I'd show you just how much beach is there. I suppose I could've taken a picture with my phone and posted it. I'll try that next time! All for now.Phyllis Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02162031383458018640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326680611561918226.post-50834952834473553592009-10-10T19:44:00.000-07:002009-10-10T19:57:38.011-07:00First Snow!

Woke up this morning to a couple inches of the white stuff on the ground. Brinkley, my almost 2 year-old Old English Sheepdog went nuts! He loves the snow and, I'm sure, appreciates the colder temperature. Now, if only I had photos to share of this blessed event.....see, I don't have a connector from my camera to the computer, which makes for slow posting of photos. I think you can tell this photo of Brinkley isn't from today! I'll put a new camera on my Christmas wish list, I guess. That's all from the island---Phyllis
Phyllis Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02162031383458018640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326680611561918226.post-76578437906188624762009-08-01T10:15:00.000-07:002009-08-01T10:30:46.767-07:00Nautical childrenMy 21 year old son, Jeff, just called from the pushboat he is on in the Pearl River near the Gulf and wanted me to google jellyfish. Apparently, he wanted to take a dive off the bow into the water but there are tons of little jellyfish in it. So, he scooped one up in a bucket and tried to describe it to me so I could tell him if it was venemous or not! In the end, the old adage, 'if in doubt, don't' won out and he didn't go in. Kids!!
The wind here in the Keweenaw is so, well, windy, it's unreal! I hope my 19 year old daughter, Amy, can get home today. She works on the Ranger III that takes passengers from Houghton, MI to Isle Royale National Park. The boat rides high in the water, so it tends to bounce around a bit. It just occurred to me that two-thirds of my children work on boats. Their Grandfather would be proud!Phyllis Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02162031383458018640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2326680611561918226.post-92054440558156144282009-07-28T12:59:00.000-07:002009-07-28T13:15:45.853-07:00IntroductionHi, my name is Phyllis, and in my spare time, I will be writing about some of the things I do in the Keweenaw, which is the northern-most county in the state of Michigan. We have harsh, long winters, and if there is anyone who appreciates spring and summer, it is the people who live in Keweenaw County! I hope to publish photos for you to enjoy as well as entice you to visit this area of rugged beauty. The Keweenaw is surrounded by water, and actually, I live on an island, so if I mention the mainland, I'm most likely referring to Houghton, MI. and points south of there. That's it for now, as I have to set up this web site!Phyllis Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02162031383458018640noreply@blogger.com0
